The SC 300 luxury sports coupe saw little change in 1994. The only significant upgrade was a CFC-free air conditioning system. The car would receive a slight facelift for the following model year.
The same 3.0 liter inline six returned, making 225 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. The SC accelerated from 0 to 60 in just over seven seconds and through the quarter mile in 16. This SC's engine was paired with a smooth-shifting 5 speed manual transmission, which drivers praised as a major improvement over the automatic. The manual offered a more lively driving experience. All SCs were available only with rear wheel drive.
The clever ergonomics and exterior design continued to highlight the SC 300. However, the SC offered more than a traditional sports car. This was a true touring coupe, which could seat four adults with considerable comfort. Today, many SC owners are reaching 125 and 150 thousand miles. This first generation SC is acclaimed as one of the most reliable sports coupe ever built, as many drivers report that they are still running with original clutches, brake pads, and struts, despite daily driving. One of the most common issues with this and all SCs has been its road manners. Its categorization as a sports coupe has frequently been questioned, mostly due to its soft suspension.
