The Ugly White Toyota Corolla — Her name is Alice. Meg bought her before I even met her. I inherited her after having to sell the Maxima so Meg could have the Sienna.

Pros: Decent MPG, very reliable, don't have to worry about it being stolen or wrecked

Cons: Ugly, slow acceleartion, stupid seat belts, trunk leaks, inside door handles are all falling off

My First Car. Reasonably Economical And Reliable — I bought this car at 148k miles for $950. So far I have driven it over 30k miles. It has

Pros: Cheap car. Cheap genuine parts. Easy to fix.

As far as reliability is concerned, I did most of the maintenance and repair jobs by myself using genuine Toyota parts only. This car has never broken down on me.

So far I have paid $3.0k for gas, $1.5k for insurance, $1.3k for maintenance and $1.2k for repair. I believe it would have costed me more had I bought a $5k used car.

Cons: Old. No airbag, no ABS, no nothing.

The 1.6L inline engine (4A-FE) makes 100 horsepower at most which means slow acceleration.

There is no sway bar, which makes it handle like a (small) boat.

My car is equipped with a 3-speed automatic transmission. This makes its highway MPG much lower than the 5-speed manual version.

A Great All-round Car — I learned to drive in Anna when I was 13. Granny gave it to me when grand dad passed on, to say I'm sentimental over her is an under statement... But due to her age I had to move on as the risk of expensive part replacement got the better of me. by the way, the paintwork and trimmings are all 100% original with not a blemish in sight! I sold her at the age of 14 for the grand sum of R28k

Pros: RELIABLE! Cheap to run and EXTREMELY economical due to the 1.3 litre enjine :o(    Comfy on all terrain and solidly built

Cons: A bit sluggish as the enjine's a tad light especially when laden. Hot property for High Jackers so anti smash 'n Grab's a must as is central locking and immobiliser...

Seemed Like A Good Buy At The Time. I Heard These Cars Can Go "forever". — Following 5 months ownwership and only 105,000 miles on the car, the automatic transmission needs to be replaced. For a person with little car repair knowledge, the $2800 estimate for fixing this problem is a huge price tag.

Some of the features in this car are not even found in modern corollas e.g Speed sensitive central locking.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Economical, fairly fast, well built, excellent features
