1992 Volkswagen Jetta Gx 1.6 8v — The Mk2 Jetta was basically a Golf with a boot. It was a really heavy car and didn't even have power steering. Really solid car, barely had a thing go wrong with it throughout it's entire life. Very basic equipment, but very comfortable ride!

Pros: Great looking car, very comfortable

Cons: Heavy and not very well equiped

Dirty Wagen — From the MK2 generation, comes my 91 Jetta. German built from the Wolfsburg factory; it doesn't suffer the build quality issues like that of other production lines. Power comes from a 1.8 liter, 8 valve, four cylinder. It's solidly built with a Audi block, and a aluminum head; which is mated to a 3 speed automatic. The power comes on gradually, and becomes fun above 3000 rpm all the way to about 6800 rpm. Faster than most modern sub- econo-boxes, it's fun to drive. The handling is balanced and better than I expected. It's not to be mistaken for a sports car, and certainly not for it's big brother, the GTI. The braking is powerful, and more than ample to stop this car in a hurry. No ABS here, it requires some intelligence. At speed down the highway it averages about 32 MPG, which is impressive for it's time. Repair costs have be moderate; proper parts are German, and cost proper money.

Pros: durible, economical, good handling

Cons: cost of/and location of parts, no rev limiter, weird seatbelts

Clean Title, Only Been Owned By One Other Person. — Good solid running car, good on gas and seat 4 people. Lots of trunk room for anything. Good size car for a audio system of any choice. Only bad thing about this car I can say is, it lacks acceleration. Amazing turning and braking. The inside is at near perfect condition. the outside has a few dents and scratches, nothing to noticable.

Pros: perfect for sound system

Cons: Not enough power

Squishy — Ehh, did its job broke lots of plastic connectors in shifter linkage. Not sure what they were called but every time one broke I would be down to two gears, usually third and fourth.

Pros: It still runs after the wheel bearing gave and the wheel fell off.

Cons: Manual Transmission was whack. Probably was a nice car in 1990. Mine did not come with the Recaro seats

Jettas Are Fantastic Cars. — Great 1st car. Lasted me almost 5 years. Bought it from a guy who didn't know anything about cars. He almost destroyed it, but my dad's a mechanic. It was a great car.

Pros: Great running.

Cons: Looked pretty beat up.

Its A V-dub — This is simply an older model of today's popular V-Dubs. There's not much else to say...

Pros: Good acceleration
Easy to drive
Easy to repair

Cons: Breakdowns are not cheap

Great Car, Not Hard To Fix — These cars last into the hundreds of thousands of miles, but parts will need replacement. Most of the things are easily fixed, but other, more major ones must be taken to a dealer unless you are very experienced or have the right tools. There's tons of information online easily available to do modifications and repairs.

Pros: big community, lots of mods, reliable

Cons: breaks sometimes

It Keeps Going And Going — this this ran so hurt for so long, burned mad oil but was still good on gas. It got me through a tough financial time without craping out on me. It made lots of weird noises and vibrated down the highway and in idle. I finally killed the poor car when I took it for a 3 hour drive down the highway. If I never did that it would have lasted a lot longer.

Pros: Reliable, good on gas, safe, great e break slides on ice, easy to fix yourself.

Cons: Ugly, gutless, head gasket.

Not A Bad Looking Car, But Junk, Junk, Junk! — Okay, I can't be TOO critical here because it was my wife's first new car. Just out of graduate school, she bought a silver Jetta sedan for the same money as would have bought her a boring Escort/Tracer/Protege. It had nice European "flavor", pretty good handling, that wonderful VW lumpy idle that many of you may remember from the 1.8 litre four, and the quirky musical reminder chime. But by 15,000 miles there were strange clinks and jingles emanating from under the car when we hit bumps, you couldn't always get the car into first gear when attempting to depart from a stop, and the paint had worn off the leading edges of the poorly-aligned rear passenger doors from road grit coming off the tires. I swore I'd never buy another VW, and here I am driving another VW (a 2005 Jetta TDI wagon). This time I mean it. Once other automakers, especially Honda, start making diesel-powered cars available in the U.S., there'll be no reason to ever buy a VW.

Pros: Nice interior materials, good looking, strangely pleasing engine idle, quirky musical reminder chime, decent handling.  Much more interesting than other cars in its class and price range.

Cons: Poor reliability, poorly assembled.
