The "budget" Audi, the 1990 Audi 80 STD is a four-door sedan powered by a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, 108-hp engine and 5-speed manual transmission. A 3-speed auto tran is optional. While still Audi's most affordable car, the 80 STD comes with great standard items, such as cruise control, power locks and windows, air conditioning, power heated mirrors, and a cassette player. For some extra money, you can add a sunroof, security system, and four-wheel ABS brakes.
The stylish exterior of the Audi 80 STD is a big hit with owners, who say it maintains its freshness over the years. Quality engineering and smooth handling characterize the driving experience. A cramped backseat, and a long wait for costly parts are the major downsides to Audi 80 ownership.

Quattro all-wheel drive technology, which distributes power to the wheels most in need of it, is new in the 1990 Audi 80 sedan this year. The 80 quattro gets a bigger engine than the base sedan, a 2.3-liter, 5-cylinder, 130-hp engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. The 3-speed automatic is not an option in the quattro.
The quattro sedan adds a few more standard features as well, in keeping with the rugged all-wheel drive capabilities. Fog lights, a rear spoiler, and a tachometer are only found in the quattro. The ABS brakes and sunroof options are available as well, along with a sports package that offers a ski bag (to keep the wet skis off of the interior material), trip computer, and special sports seats. Benefits of the 1990 Audi 80 quattro include great gas mileage, superior performance in the snow, great handling, and a quiet ride. Drivers wish for a little more horsepower, better off-the-line acceleration, and complain that the car is a little too heavy for easy maneuvering.
