1987 Jeep CherokeeReview

Total Piece Of Junk!!!! — My ex-girlfriend bought this car against my advice about 6 years ago. I KNEW I was going to have to do constant repairs to it, and I was right. She gave it to me 4 years ago, in consideration for all the time I'd spent on it keeping it going for her. I have replaced or had trouble with just about every single component and system, and find it to be the most POORLY engineered and thought-out vehicle I have ever owned. It will be a cold, bitter cold, day in hell before I EVER own one of these pieces of wreckage again!!

Owner for 4 years, 3 months

Miles Driven per Year:12,000

Pros: NONE

Cons: Poorly designed and engineered; poor ergonomics; rotten reliability; terrible mileage; unecessarily complicated systems; shoddy parts quality; all-around a bad piece of work.  Very much a product of the OLD AMC/Jeep corporation.

1987 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4-Door 4WD Review
GuruLHDKW says:
This jeep is unstoppable, 426000 miles on the clock and its still ticking. 426000! On the original motor and transmission, It has only had to clutches put in! I have had no issues. Its front end is a little loose but I dont drive the freeway very often anyways. When I do it still handles very well. I just cant go as fast. The seats are very comfortable. It has a 5 speed manual and this car just wont quit. I take it mudding all the time and it is 100% stock. I have a tow strap and often times pull my friends out! The only complaint I have is the Nash straight six engine that is in it runs a little hot. I put in a fan and it hasnt boiled over on me since. I would recommend this Jeep to anyone. I will never sell it. Thank you for reading my review!

"The seat is only a little more comfortable. It has better back support."
Cargo Capacity Ranked 1987 Toyota 4Runner 2 Dr SR5 worse.
"All of the space in the back of this car is amazing. I have all of the things I need to survive 2 months, with room to spare. This includes food, clean drinking water. I have a cot, and a tent. I also keep tools and a tow strap and a come along. The spare tire is in there too. This is with my back seat up and ready to take passengers. It doesnt feel crowded or packed. There is still room in it. It also has a roof rack that I put a bag on. I havent needed to use the rack bag yet. Its there for looks now."

The V6 model had great power and quiet ride. Great style. The 4 cylinder was not powerful enough for me. The cargo area was too small for me so I am looking at the Grand Cherokee now instead . Read More
