1986 Jaguar XJ-SReview

I Like It. —

I have a 1986 Jaguar XJS, powered by a 5.3 Liter V12, should have somewhere around 300 hp, and a bit more than 310 foot pounds of torque. That being said, the acceraltion is not the best due to it weighing close to 4000 pounds and having an old 3 speed automatic transmission with tall gears (First goes to 60, second to around 120, and it tops out around 150-160). Right now it is in the middle of several projects, in my ongoing series of mods to it. I have modified the intakes and gutted most of the exhaust for performance. I have almost mostly completed a speaker wall where the back seats used to be, and installed a harness bar with simpson 4 point race harnesses. Powering the sound system is one 4000 watt sub amp, and a 1000 watt 4 channel amp. It has neons on it, but they are not finished to the state I want. I have plenty more mods on the way, or being planned. It is a fun car to drive, mostly due to it being rather unique. Despite not being the best off the line, it pulls forever. And it's a fun show piece. Sadly, the car gets between 8 and 12 miles in the city, and about 20 on the highway.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Fun unique and interesting

Cons: Gas milage

1986 Jaguar XJ-SReview

Very Nice Looking, Great Handling, Unreliable... — Gorgeous car. This particular one has a very nice body kit, as did the one owned by my dad. Really great car in terms of handling... drives very nicely, the V12 isn't great on the accel, but its top speeds are phenomenal (it had the fastest stock-car record in its year, 160 mph), but speeds above 80 ranging to about 120 are really smooth, and you can't feel that speed at all. Only problems are its unreliability, as it is an original Jaguar, and the fact that its parts are hard to find and very expensive. We're talking $750 water pump.

Pros: Gorgeous, great handling, great driving. Real eye catcher.

Cons: Unreliable, expensive to maintain, awful gas mileage
