1985 Toyota 4Runner Overview
The 1985 Toyota 4Runner was an excellent SUV in its day, and a fun one to rebuild today due to such features as a removable top and relatively easy to enhance engine.
The 1984 Toyota 4Runner remained primarily unchanged from the introductory model of 1984 1/2. A new fuel-injected 2.4-liter 22R-E engine was added as an option, as well as standard rear seats. 1985 was also the last year to find solid axle 4Runners.

Adam There are TWO distinct qualities that the 85 4runner possess. One is the solid front axle. The reason the 85 is so sought after is due to the EFI engine that was available the LAST YEAR the toyota still had a solid front axle. Some key features which stand out and make this quite possibly the best of the "unbreakable" toyotas (1979-1985) is that they turned the standard pick up into a SUV. They added a camper shell, a rear seat and many power options. I have owned every toyota from 79-85 and the 4runner is the only one with plenty of room. ALL of the pickups, even the ext cab, you are in there tight, no room for a sound system, tool box, cooler, etc etc etc. If you ever buy a toyota that is 1979-1985 you should absolutely hands down purchase either an 84 (carburetor) or 85 (EFI) 4runner. Prices vary greatly on global location. The MAIN factors when purchasing one is to try and find one that is stock (not yet turned into a 4x4 trail truck), has NO RUST anywhere on frame and body and has a solid STRIAGHT frame, i.e. zero accidents, damage, crashes, etc. all else is fixed in a matter of minutes to hours. I have seen them in THIS condition running, go for $2000-$8000 at of 2014. TOYOTA!
