My 5 In 1989 — bag of cement in the boot sorted the handling. gt styling interior, spoiler and alloys. twin choke carb, with manifold from a volvo 340gl. would take an XR2 on a good day. That 1.4 sleeved engine could take anything you could chuck at it. 50 in second was done frequently. Bought it with 90 thow on the clock sold it with 145. still running today apparently. Primary Use: Commuting to work Pros: interior from a gt turbo Cons: i dont have it ![]() Looking for a Used 5 in your area?CarGurus has thousands of nationwide listings and the tools to find you a great deal. |

Bottom Line — It was a 1.7 double carburetor engine, had lots of power, and good performance. Great appearance. Bad is low interior quality and low quality plastic which squeaks a lot. Fun factor was great - very noisy very fast car, i really loved it. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.) Pros: fun Cons: it's not reliable for every day |

Fast Lightweight Looney — Build quality was poor, but a powerful 1.4 litre turbo engine combined with a 830 kilo kerb weight meant that this car was fun and agile. Many tuning possibilites available. The one in the pictures I had up to around 180bhp with minimal modification. Stopping power was upgraded with 283mm cross drilled discs on the front and standard sized cross drilled rears. Too many modifications to list here, but a great fun car. Pros: Power and Subaru beating performance from a tuned model. Looked great and always turned heads. Sounded nice with a tuned exhaust system. Cons: Engine failure, heads cracking, Electrical faults and eventually rust. Doors dropped after a while due to the size of them. Seats tore on edges from cheap cloth. Engine had an anti perculation fan fitted to stop the carburettor from evaporating the fuel when you stopped, didn't always work. However if you only wanted a track or drag car though very cheap, well worth a look. |
