Awesome — Great fun car if you like your classic hot hatches. Well worth searching for a good example as there are a few old dogs out there (fine if your looking for a project). Certainly a head turner and great car to tinker with.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Simple to maintain and great fun to drive

Cons: Nothing if you dont mind missing modern comforts

A 30 Years Love Affair — The definitive hot hatch still cuts it, it's light, agile even though the brakes have never been one of its strongest points. Safe, fast, small, airy, a real delight to drive it on B roads. 2 more at home just in case!

Pros: It's all round performance

Cons: the awful brakes!

A Mini Cooper And Alfa Sud All In One — Guaranteed to put a smile on your face, after a hard day at the office, this car is small and agile - equally at home in traffic or in the lanes. What's more, it doesn't cost the earth to keep on the road...

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: It'll do 40mpg if I want it to

Cons: Each trip is too short

'83 Rabbit Gti — The original year of the US GTI. Great fun. Easy to work on. Light weight. Every little thing you could do for horsepower translated exponentially into performance. Always replace the original 4 into 1 exhaust header. Be sure to check for rust around the bottom of the windshield - water will pool there and then take out the fuse box in one fell swoop - take my word.

Pros: Quick, light, tossable, fun, fun, fun

Cons: Electrical problems due to windshield seal/rust

Vw Golf Gti Mark I — Best Oldtimer low budget sportscar in the world... If you seek the real driving experience, you should drive one of these... Not so hard to find but very hard to find one in good condition...

Pros: Engine/power, No powersteering (real driving at last), price, availability

Cons: no powersteering (if you are lazy :p )

Nice Ride, You Can Trust In That Car — Really good when driving in the Highway, a superb fuel economy , a nice start, and awesome engine for it's class, the only no good thing is the suspension, but nothing that a good amount of money can't change

Pros: The fuel economy, the look, the economy in parts

Cons: dampers

Golf Gti 2.6 Ottinger Turbo — This is my hobby car, it has a 2.6L 16 valve ottinger engine, conversion done by volkspares, and also has a t3/t4 turbo installed, loads of mods still to be done, also has a new velocity interior installed, love it yeaaaaaaa baby!

Pros: Runs like a dream, handle like on rails, and gets of the lights like a bullet from a gun...

Cons: Heavy on fuel, and a bit bumpy on uneven roads

The Most-fun You Will Ever Have In A Box — I'm the 2nd owner of mine, which I bought in 1988. At 25 years of age now, the original factory paint still has a mirror-like shine and everything is still bolted together very well. There are some rattles from the aging receding plastic on the interior but that would happen to any car from any mfr of this age. This car is no luxmobile - in fact it's the anti-luxmobile and a rolling tribute to all of the wonderful things about NVH [noise, vibration, harshness]. It's sort of like a square metal running suit...there's not much between you and the road and the car never lets you forget that you must DRIVE it, not just operate it. Feedback from everything is there, and you will appreciate that when you're out having fun in the car which is pretty much any time it's in motion. I'm often asked if I would sell it, and the answer has to be no. Above all else, I will forever keep this car. You can have it when you pry the keys from my cold, dead hands. :)

Owner for 20 years, 0 months

Miles Driven per Year:5,000

Pros: Light weight, very tossable, close-ratio shifter, steering couldn't communicate any more info to you unless it had a crystal ball, brakes work very well even though the rears are drums, just enough electronics underhood to make it work better without making it unnecessarily complicated or unreliable, EXTREMELY easy to work on, classic styling that never looks old, turns heads and gets hoots & hollers everywhere it goes.

Cons: NVH which again is subjective, middling MPGs [I get 21 city, 25 hwy on Amoco Ultimate w/Valvoline full synthetic oil], drum brakes out back, kind of hard to find some replacement parts [namely interior and body parts] but not impossible.
