I Only Wish I Could Have Been The Original Owner! Sadly, I Can No Longer Work To Restore It. — The Jaguar XJ-S is one of the most beautifully styled sports cars on the road, and it's amazing how much admiration it receives. It is very, very solid at all speeds (past 100 MPH) and seems to accelerate effortlessly. Quiet cabin. Impressive gas mileage (17 in town and 21 to 24 on the mountainous highway). Fabulous brakes and exceptional handling... until the ball-joints, front-end and sway-bar bearings wore out (after 27 years!) Whoever ends up with this Jag will cherish it. Rebuild the transmission and front-end, and the rest of the restoration work can be lovingly done over time, much as one cares for a wooden boat. It is, after all, a labor of love. Pros: Absolutely love the XJ-S styling, the Jag's ride, and the awesome power - - so we bought another one... My '83 is absent the smog equip, and that's GOOD. MPG is still 17-24! (Wish we could have kept em both!) Cons: It helps to be your own mechanic. The pros who say they're qualified to work on Jags seldom are. The parts (not really that expensive overall) must often be found on-line, which may require some patience... and another car to drive in the meanwhile. ![]() Looking for a Used XJ-S in your area?CarGurus has 5 nationwide XJ-S listings and the tools to find you a great deal. |
