1972 Lotus Elan Review
Most Fun You Can Have While Staying Under Speed Limit! — Elans take a certain type of person to own. You can't be terrified to look up at the base of Semi Trucks while you go by them or they are merging into you. ASSUME that other drivers's will NOT SEE you drive accordingly! You also have to be proactive in maintenance and prepared for strange failures. Otherwise nothing else will give the the sensation of driving a car you set you hand flat on the ground while sitting in the car. Without having to bend over to touch it.
Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)
Pros: Handling, Size, Power to Weight Ratio, Brakes, Great fuel economy, Good parts availability because it started as a Kit car.
Cons: British Electrics, No Safety Equipment (other than your ability to read traffic [Stop signs are scary]), Top requires practice to put up & down in under 5 minutes.
