Fun Muscle Car. Blast For You And The Family. — The 71-73 was the last biggest production Mustang produced. The hoax of fuel shortage to drive up fuel cost. Turned the Mustang into the Mustang II. ? This was the last of the real muscle for a while! 71-73 was the last of the big mean old shcool muscle. This will be a fun restore. There's many parts and suppliers available for these cars. Just be careful shop around and look for the best products and prices. You can get a lot of money in the quick. Wish me luck on mine! Thanks T.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: New improved steering from the 71.  Great looking classic muscle.

Cons: Bigger heavier car.  Lost a lot of Chrome and emblems and went to graphics.

A Little Piece Of The 70's — It's been a family car for 40 years and the top has been down about 80% of that time. It's always been very reliable, easy to maintain and a pleasure to drive. It has plenty of get-up-and-go, and can stop on a dime. Not much more I can add to that.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: It's an eye-catching fun car! The hood seems to go on forever when your sitting in the drivers seat and the windshield has a very sleek sweep to it.  The engine compartment has plenty room to work, and simplicity is the word when compaired to todays engines.  It always starts up immediately, and during accerlation, provides smooth power without hesitation. The power brakes (disk in front, drums in rear) are fantastic and provide solid braking. It's a really nice 40 year old Mustang and runs like a top!

Cons: It only gets around 18 mpg, which was common in the 70's but a definate disadvantage now.  Lead additive and octane booster is thrown into the tank prior to filling up with premium.  It has the orig AM radio, with a single speaker in the upper console, a real bummer if you don't like talk radio.  It has a few small paint chips/scratches,

Tysonblair says:
71 mach 1 429 cj ram air. Looks cool as hell. Drives awful. Stiff and rubbery at the same time. Short stiff springs combined with soft rubber bushings. Numb road feel. Bump steer. Terrible over assisted power steering. Heavy engine and lack of adequate suspension leaves the car unbalanced. Poly glass tires have terrible grip and are instantly overpowered by awesome 429 cobra jet. Terrible seating position takes a long time to get used to. Awful suspension due to heavy engine in low slung unibody. Seats are very low. Great motor. Interesting lines and good looks. Terrible train wreck of a car. Gearing is no good for modern highway speeds.

Value Ranked 1969 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop Coupe RWD better.
"These years are not popular due to their looks which makes them cheap. The Landau styled cars are dated but the hardtops have a more muscular look. However they drive great and from 68 on all come equipped with big block powerplant. They drive great with no need for drivetrain or suspension upgrades. Comfortable for long drives smooth quiet but healthy engine. Surprisingly gas efficient. A nice cockpit to spend time in. Underated."

"Bargain big block power. higher quality, much much better driving. "
