One Of Many Bugs — They are slow, Heating rarely works, and mine filled up with water. BUT never have i had a car that gives so many smiles, received so many waves, and had such a huge close club following.

Pros: GREAT for customising, Clubs, Events, ANYTHING Really

Cons: SO DAMN OLD... so damn rust prone, BUT I DONT CARE!!!

Bought It As An Investment — I bought this car with the help of my Brother in law to fix up and resell. It took longer than I thought it would. Sanded it myself in the driveway and drove it to Maaco to get it repainted. Installed new interior. My dad ended up selling it for me while I was at college. Made a couple of hundred bucks. Fun to drive. Not very fast but still fun in a plain kind of way. Quaint. Wish I could do it again.

Pros: Simple, reliable, classic

Cons: None Really if you don't expect more than a basic quaint car.

Cons: I don't have it anymore

Our First Car And No Regrets! — Like any 'old' car, there will the usual not-so-good sounds but hey our Baggy isn't so bad. We love driving it! The upholstery is great! No need for aircon. :D

Pros: great upholstery
sturdy interior and exterior
great color
gas-saver

Cons: 4-speed only
no a/c for those who claim to need a/c all day long

1966 Restored Bug — I loved this car. I wish I had pictures of the interior. They were all done in black and red velvet like material.

Pros: It turned heads

Cons: It had no pickup

Plenty Of Smiles For Lots Of Miles —

For me the classic Beetle is a love affair; i started my driving career behind the wheel of a Beetle, a 1968 model. Through that car i was exposed to the world of hi performance VW's, all the different custom styles, and the simplicity the cars had. I kid you not, i learned everything about cars on that little '68, even how to rebuild and build engines. Sadly, that car was totaled by a DUI, which led to this car's purchase. I only drove this one for two more years as a daily driver before relegating it to hobby car status, and this year i plan to register it as a full classic (plates and insurance). The driving experience depends on what type of person you are; if you want high speed, on the rails handling, don't look here. This car has understeer until you push it too far, then you suddenly get 'snap' oversteer and swap ends. Stock performance is laughable at best; i know both this 66 and my 68 came with 1600cc engines, which put out 46 hp at best. They didn't get up to speed fast, but you'd get from point a to point b, just not quickly. Because of the age of these cars, you don't have any of the amenities of modern cars: power steering? nope. Power brakes? Psh, dream on. Automatic transmission? Learn to drive a stick ya lazy ass :-p. Only auto these cars had was a flawed 'auto stick' that had to be shifted between ranges and would often either lock in neutral or in one range. Heating is also non-existent; the best heating system for these cars was a good set of gloves and a wool cap. You also need an ice scraper for INSIDE the car if you drive one year round But if you get past all that, the Beetle is a fun car to drive; what other car can you drive that gets you honked at, waved at, puts smiles on kids and adults faces, and always draws a crowd wherever you go.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: -Great smile factor
-Simple, robust design (will run as long as they can get gas and oil)
-Small, manuverable at low speeds
-Nippy in slow corners
-Huge community and fanbase, so parts are always available

Cons: -Underpowered
-Power nothing
-Manual transmission only
-Poor brakes
-Meager to no heat
-Manual steering is heavy at slow speeds
-Poor gas mileage compared to today's cars
-Rear engine, rear drive - takes some getting used to in different driving situations
-Really can't fit more than 2 people if the driver is taller than 6 ft.
