Have never driven a Comet; however, am having one restored right now...a 63 Comet Custom 2 Dr. Hardtop Coupe. She is sporting a very nice red paint job....will have a fresh 302 power plant, power steering, disc front brakes and AC/Heat.
Cargo Capacity Ranked 1965 Studebaker Commander worse.
"No sure it does...in all honesty, I could not leave the page asking such questions until I made selections, so I just blindly selected the Comet...I suspect the Commander has more room...but, the Comet is at least 1 foot longer than the Commander!"
Value Ranked 1965 Studebaker Commander better.
"Not sure it is...but is is a wonderful car to drive, even without all the driving comforts we are so accustomed to having. Honestly, I would like to have that Commander as well as my Comet, but since I have a couple of trucks, that might be difficult to keep up with ."

One Hot Little Sub-compact! — I bought this as a gift for myself as I was shipping out to Iraq. It sat for over 1.5 years and when I got back was able to drive it for about 6 months before I found out that the transmission had blown out both seals. I am currently in the process of rat-rodding this car. Most of the sheet metal is rusted through or bondo'd. Luckily the frame is really good shape.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

    Pros: Great looks.  Head turner.

Cons: Transmission is leaking to bad to drive it...

Fun More From Style Than Speed. Reliable, Drivable, But Not A New Car; — Very stylish inside and out. Condition still a little rough--restoration in progress. As built, braking and handling inadequate by today's standards. Acceleration from 260 v8 okay but nothing spectacular. Fuel economy 20 mpg highway, great for 1963. Parts have been added to improve handling and braking--sub frame connectors, export brace and Monte Carlo bar (To reduce unwanted flexing of the car's unibody construction, improving the handling). Also the front brakes have been converted from drum to disc. The fun factor is high because you can roll down all the windows and there is no post between the door and the rear quarter window area, almost like a convertible. The original AM radio works great. A stereo with MP3 input and CD player is also mounted below the center dash.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: Fun, stylish old school ride

Cons: Reliabilty, handling and fuel economy (not a new car)

Buy A Classic ...it Maybe Expensive To Resotore But You'll Enjoy It In The Long Run — I haven't actually got to drive the Comet yet it's in restoration. The reason I chose to purchase the mercury comet is because i am obsessed with cars especially classics. The comet is not be the ultimate classic car that I'd like to own, but it sure has grown on me alot....and I get to put my own personal taste to it..

    Pros: parts are cheap

Cons: restoring takes time and money and alot of "unexpected purchases" and patience

My Favorite Car — Comfortable, fun drive for adventures and leisurely drives...good on gas...need to be mindful of braking...best on a lovely, summer night ...really nice on a seaside cruise...love to go to Drive-In Movies (need a boom box though...only AM radio:)

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros: anywhere you go is fun

Cons: can overheat on super hot days
