Not Sure If This Shop Is Just Dishonest, Or Honestly Just Don't Know What They Are Doing............................... —
I was recently presented a very hefty bill for repairs on a fleet vehicle. Joel, the service advisor, flat out fabricated needed repairs on this car, and the one repair it did need was horribly misdiagnosed. The shop did not even clear the diagnostic memory and check for a hard fault at the start of their CEL diagnosis. Doing this is emissions 101. The part Jones wanted to replace to remedy the CEL was suggested by pure speculation over how the EGR system works, and being a seasoned emissions technician, Joel was unable to mislead me into buying his ticket and rather than coming across knowledgeable as he was attempting, he only revealed to me how he is a very creative BS'er.
Instead of taking a chance here, I had it towed to another vendor, who identified the correct repair as very commonly failed DPFE sensor (again, emissions 101 if you have been around FOMOCO products very long!!) rather than the EGR solenoid presented. I was further distressed to find that the "rusty" coolant, leaking P/S hose and the loose tie rod end has mysteriously repaired themselves somewhere between Jones Auto and another independent shop. I was not suprised that the coolant was OK as we had just replaced the engine and radiator in this car within 12K. Clearly Joel was banking on selling the service hoping I would not look at our maintenance history.
Overall - I wouldn't take anything Jones Auto and Marine represents as a needed repair without a second opinion to back it up, as with this experience, none of the repairs that Jones suggested were preformed to the car by the time the CEL was turned off. My $1,500 repair at Jones turned out to be roughly $550 including the tow to the second shop and a rental for our driver.
IMHO I would not use Jones Auto, and I am sure a quick internet search of other auto shop review sites will confirm my position
Great Shop In Houston Northwest Area —
great work, and great service...can be a bit procey, but they stand behind their work...my Family has been taking vehicles to them for years, and they have served us well ever since we started using them...ED, the shop owner, and Edith, his wife and business manager, are great people...it is a small family run business, that takes care of their customers...
