"I did not have a positive experience shopping for a vehicle with
Carriker. Two words come to mind from my experience:
disingenuous and sheisty. I had a specific Make/Model, year and
mileage range in mind and found a used vehicle matching my
needs at Carriker. I live in Des Moines, but was willing to make a
trip for the "right" vehicle, which I thought this was. The car was
listed WAY above market value (nearly $12,000, to be exact). I
thought this must be a misprint, so I called and talked to Wes. My
experience went downhill from there. Wes is the quintessential
used car salesman; and I don't mean that as a compliment. He
was nearly impossible to speak to. His questions were
unintelligible half the time and the other half the time he was busy
spewing forth disingenuous compliments (oh, you're so smart,
you're looking good today, etc.). He said that he'd give me the
price I was asking for and a fair trade over the phone, so I decided
it was worth the trip to take the car for a test drive. Once in the
dealership (this place is SO tired and dirty), Wes would simply
disappear into his boss' office without telling us where he was
going. He sat with me, jumping the gun and getting information
from my trade, for 30 minutes or so before even offering to let us
test drive the car (which, by the way, was running outside the
whole time...). Wes can barely write; it took him FOREVER to fill
out the forms. The car did run great. I would have purchased it, but
Wes and his (invisible) boss weren't willing to meet in the middle.
His offer was $1,500 more than he quoted me over the phone. This
was simply out of my budget, but probably wouldn't have broken
the dealership by any means. In the end, though, I'm VERY
grateful that I didn't have to deal with Carriker any further than I
did. Wes said many times that he doesn't play games, but this
dealership clearly does nothing BUT play games with potential
buyers. It was a bad experience from front to back for me and my
family. Buyers beware!"
