2003 Mazda MPV LX Review
by Lori

The paint, seats, etc have held up great! We love that the third row folds away or it can tilt the other direction for tailgate seating. This car is rarely in the shop! I would buy a Mazda MVP for my next van but Mazda stopped making them.

Avg. Dealer Rating: (15 reviews) "Staff was very friendly in the beginning, towards the middle and end they seemed kind of rushed to take me through the whole process of buying a car. Definitely felt the pressure. I wouldn't give them 5 stars because they could improve on some things when it comes to the overall quality of customer service. Have yet to find out how good their customer service is when it comes to servicing cars. Fingers crossed because I did buy a car from them."

Avg. Dealer Rating: (12 reviews) "TL;DR - Dealer was slow to respond via email or phone (blamed it on them being very busy); made promises to contact me with info by a certain time and didn't meet those; dodged my multiple requests for more photos (likely in order to hide the very bad condition on the car); vehicle was in very poor exterior condition and the dealer could not give any details on the mechanical condition; then presented me a "great offer" AS-IS on the vehicle (a price which they then lowered publicly a week later). Dealer was highly recommended by family members who had purchased at least four vehicles from them previously, but this experience was very upsetting. Contacted dealer attempting to get more photographs, price, and details on the car and then traded emails over two days. Was emailed a price (specifically stating that the retail value was approximately $2000 higher than their asking price) but was never provided photos or condition details. Attempted to call day before arriving to confirm availability and spoke with another salesperson since original salesperson was unavailable. Was assured that I would receive a call the following morning by a specific time with information requested - never received the call and instead had to call and leave messages with both salespersons. The reason I was given for the delayed responses was that the car was in reconditioning and this made it difficult (or impossible, apparently) to get photos or pricing info. Upon arriving to view the vehicle the first issue was that the keys were misplaced (not really an issue, I am quite patient). However, when we were finally taken to see the vehicle it became very clear why I was not being provided additional photos or details on the condition on the car. [Note: the description on the car posted for sale (and still shown on their website) reads, "Dare to compare! Who could say no to a simply terrific car like this superb 2009 Mazda Mazda3 s!"] It was at this time that it actually came to light that the vehicle was in reconditioning all week but never actually went thru the process. Furthermore the car was not even washed or cleaned out (in fact there were personal affects still in the car). The first thing the salesman said when we walked out back was "the car does have a few cosmetic issues". This was an understatement. I expressed clearly to the salesperson my concern and disappointment at the visible condition of the vehicle. The car had clearly been in multiple minor collisions and bumps as indicated by the scrapes, gashes, and creases along the sides of the car (primarily the driver). The front bumper was shifted toward the passenger side, had been clearly held on at one time by tape, and part of the lower bumper lip was torn off. There was a crease on the front left fender, the back left door, both the left and right sides of the rear bumper, immediately behind the back right door, etc. Three out of four wheels were damaged by scraping against surfaces (likely curbs). The right fog light glass was broken. The windshield had a large horizontal crack in it and would need to be replaced. The engine bay displayed more visible concerns as well which I won't get into, and the test drive also brought up some questions on the mechanical reliability of the car. Upon returning after the test drive the salesperson had an offer for ME on the vehicle, approximately $1000 less than the previous asking price (which was already supposedly $2000 below the retail value). This was surprising (if not suspicious), and only became more troubling when they marked their offer with "AS-IS". They made it clear that they had not even sent the car thru their evaluation (let alone the reconditioning), and thus they did not know (and offered no warranty for) any issues might be present beyond the obvious visible damage that the car had sustained. They basically said that if they evaluated it and repaired the damage and any other issues that they found then the price on the car would only go up to cover those costs. I walked away from their offer and told them to contact me once they performed their evaluation to repair and recondition the car. I received an email early Friday stating "Great News! The price on the 2009 Mazda Mazda3 you are interested in here at El Dorado Motors has changed!" In fact, the price has changed to approximately $1000 below the AS-IS "great deal" that they were offering to me when I saw the car. I emailed the salesperson immediately after receiving the email about the price drop from their offer and the evaluation of the car and have yet to hear back."
