BMW E30 3 Series sedan , the best 'first BMW to own' I think. Fast, easy to drive, relatively cheap to fix and upgrade, nice sound. If you think about BMW and you never had one and you previous car was not sports car, this is the car you should start with I think.

"Dealer called me back in a day. But offered an alternative to the Toureg, an X3. Not a bad idea, better fuel economy, a bit smaller though and not a real off-roader. Also dealer did mention the Touregs poor fuel economy, of this 2008 model, at around 16 to 17 mpg from what I remember."
