Toyota Cressida Overview

The Toyota Cressida was introduced for the 1973 model year. It was nicknamed "the four-door Supra" due to its their shared engine and rear-wheel drive. The Cressida was a mid-sized luxury sedan, featuring many amenities that were before their time.

The first Cressidas were equipped with unusual (for the time) standard features such as air conditioning . It was also known for being extremely comfortable and quiet. Drivers who have bought used Cressidas are often amazed at how advanced the cockpit is.

Toyota stopped selling the Cressida in the U.S. in 1992. Sales were slow due to a high price tag, and Toyota didn't need a luxury sedan since Lexus was proving to be a success.

The Cressida is popular today among tuners and for racing, due to its powerful engine and rear wheel drive.
