  it's a fairly quick car that is fun to drive and also practical. With new rims and tires it handles much better than you would expect a four door saloon to handle. The only problems are with some of the materials being used on the interior coming apart

for a 4 door sedan it's got some punch. and it might not be a sports car but it can perform like one. there is a lot that can be done to this car. but as a daily driver it's a lot of fun.
Pros:
well worth while purchase all around

can't do the maintnance myself so much any more

Runs great, but electrical problems such as light fixtures are a severe problem and I see that I'm not the only one. I see these cars on the road with at least one external light out all the time. Other than that and besides the turbo having a second and half delay (as all do - only Porsche has perfected turbo charged systems), it's a nice city car.
Pros:
Rarely have problems with performance, good size for city, decent mileage.
Cons:
Electrical problems particularly with lights inside and out, cheap glove compartment handles, cigarette lighter plugi-in area too tight, wheel locks are unnecessery, turbo is okay.

i love the car to death, but it keeps freaking breaking down. i wouldn't reccomend this car to ANYONE that isn't a mechanic...you WILL be working on it a lot. My favorite feature is that this car will outrun a 2004 and older mustang GT and get 25 mpg doing it...but it is not a gas saver under any circumstances. it's a cheap thrill. but i've been through a lot with mine...im kinda attatched to it

After being a Ford fan for years (and still am at heart), I was persuaded into a VW and it's been the best decision car wise I have made. After 227,000km it still runs as if it were new. It is fast enough, the buld quality is excellent for a small car and very good on gas. I've put just over $1000 in maintenance in 4 years of ownership. I definitely recommend the MK4 Jetta to anyone!
Pros:
Build quality, low maintenance, fuel economy, quietness, dateless styling.
Cons:
Interior room, lack of power seats, some electronic issues.
