not enough power for real fun drive. should've gotten
the xrs, 5 speed manual. the sound proof is not good
enough for good quality audio at high speed. got
good mileage 25-31, but should've gotten a Honda,
just because.

Pros: mileage
Cons: not enough power

It is a Toyots so that's a good thing, it is loud on the highway due to no insulation and some parts are real cheap and peeling chipping in the interior, the GM radio is horrible in the 2003 model but improved when they switched to a Toyota radio in newer models.

Pros: low mainteneance
Cons: road noise

The acceleration is decent. On hot or warm days it takes a little while to get to above 45 mph.Easy handling.Dash board creaks a very little bit.Interior is very spacious and the exterior is very sporty. The only complaint I have is the front end that is very low to the ground. It gets scratched very easy from steep driveways. It does very well on the freeway but above average around town.It is a very fun car to drive. It's very zippy and quick.

Pros: above average on gas, perfect size cabin, comfortable seating, great trunk space, zippy, very sporty
Cons: no power, runs badly on hot days, front end too low to ground gets scratched really easy

Had it since new, it's gotten me and my associated mass of stuff, military and personal, across Canada, and to 3 different homes. Plus the usual vacation spots with all the camping gear and room left over for friends.
For it's rated 135HP, probably only puts that down now that I have a cold air intake and exhaust done,  it's got some get up and go, but nothing truly exceptional. Still, the 5MT beats the slushbox anyday.

Pros: Lots o' room
Fun to toss around
Fairly cool interior
Good gas mileage
Cons: No sports car
It's a hatch
Japanese paint
Plastic scratchable hatch area

Great Little Car, But Bad Ground Clearence, Vibe Would Have Been Better

I like cars that are functional first and no bigger than is necissary. The Matrix is exactly that, parking well and getting good MPG while remaining roomy inside both for kids and cargo. My only complaint is that the cool looking ground effects both dramatically limit ground clearence (I supose that is obvious, but it is more of a problem than I thought) and sometimes whistle at highway speeds.
With hind-sight I would have gotten the Vibe which also has an integrated roof-rack.
