1987 Volkswagen Fox Reviews
“A Mediocre Vehicle.. You're Better Off With A Jetta”
this was one of the most unappealing vehicles i've ever owned. although smaller and
lighter than the jettas of the same year, the 4 speed manual transmission's ratios were
horribly spaced and made the 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine perform worse than the jetta. the
fuel economy was also 2-3 mpg less. another issue i've had with the volkswagens is the
1.8 liter 8 valve 4 cylinder engines are prone to cracked pistons. all 3 VW's i owned died of
this problem. the only real plus side of the fox I owned was that as a 2 door wagon, there
was a surprising amount of cargo space.
I had in Edmonton I paid $250 for this 87 fox with 220,000kms it was badly rusted on the sides but the floors had no rust. This was not one of Volkswagens nicer models but the four speed standard was fun to drive, I drove the supreme hell of this vdub for 4 months and it never once let me down. I drove it to the scrap yard the day I flew home to Cape Breton from Edmonton.
