1968 Volkswagen Beetle Reviews
| “My First Real Baby” My 1968.5 Volkswagen Bug was my second car. This car was my road dawg. This car taught me everything I know about shifting AND taking turns. This car used to break down all the time, but it was easy to fix. I had alot of good times with this car. It had IRS, which was only found on the later models, but it was a 1968 so it was NOT a superbeetle (superbeetles had IRS). I also had Integra GSR seats, limo tint, 1835cc engine, superstreet tranny (for high speeds such as freeway).
Pros —
Hauled ass, RWD, super clean, CLASSIC, german
Cons —
It was a bug also known as a "taxi" in mexico!

| “My First Beetle” This was the 1st year of the "automatic stick shift". The transmission was less than desirable. It was functional, not reliable and expensive to repair. The engine was fine.
Pros —
This car was capable of driving in two feet of water without stalling out. It was also great off road.
Cons —
Poor gas mileage 22 mpg. Expensive transmission to repair.

| “Simplicity At It's Best”
As everybody knows, the VW Beetle never changed it's body shaped in it's 30 plus years in production; the only thing that changed was internals. Things like updates from 6-volt to 12-volt electrical systems, bigger brakes, and the addition of some safety features.
Pros —
Great smile factor
-Simple, robust design (will run as long as they can get gas and oil) -Small, manuverable at low speeds -Nippy in slow corners -Huge community and fanbase, so parts are always available
Cons —
-Underpowered
-Power nothing -Manual transmission only -Poor brakes -Meager to no heat -Manual steering is heavy at slow speeds -Poor gas mileage compared to today's cars -Rear engine, rear drive - takes some getting used to in different driving situations -Really can't fit more than 2 people if the driver is taller than 6 ft.

| “Very Fun To Drive And To Own” I picked my car up for a price I couldn't walk away from about a year ago. I was worried about buying a 40 year old car but have been more than happy with it. Although the maintenance is a little more than I am used to, it's definitely worth it.
Pros —
everything
Cons —
None

| “An Amazing First Car That I Never Want To Give Up.” My dad and I rebuilt this car in two months. It has a new motor, and almost anything else you can replace on it. It's an awesome daily driver, but not so good on the freeways. I've pused it to about 80 before, but that wouldn't fly on a long haul.
Pros —
Runs well, looks amazing
Cons —
Needs a new tranny, doesn't go incredibly fast

| “Lots Of Fun, Reliable And Great On Gas.” I loved this car. I used to drive the hell out of it. Killed the transmission doing donuts in the snow one night. Replaced the trans myself. Messed up electrical somehow and the entire electrical system shorted out. Ended up selling for $100. I used to fill up the tank for $4 and drive it for 2 weeks.
Pros —
Very fun.
Cons —
No heat!
