2001 Volvo S40 Reviews
| “Volvo S40 - Rethink It” Has the most powerful brakes and fastest acceleration of any car I've driven or riden in. It has turbo so I can go 0 to 60 in 4 or 5 seconds. It handles great, I never get stuck in ice or snow, I never hydroplane, and I know if I hit anything I'll do more damage to it than it'll do to me. Looks great compared to the older models and then newer models - newer ones are ugly. Doesn't need to be maintained beyond the basics; looks newer than it is. VERY fun to drive.

it's not as hot as a ferrari, but hey

| “01 S40” Reviewing:
2001 Used Volvo S40 STD
To tell you the truth... this car sucked the first year of ownership. Problem after problem but this has to have been ignorance by the original owner. After fixing these issues the car has been great! No major issues. Downside is it needs Premium gas as well as Synthetic Oil but other than that it runs great. Average 23.5 MPG around the city and easy 30 + in the highway. 300 miles to a 12 gallon tank! Upgrades needed to the car are better tires and better speakers. The leather is made out of great quality. Peppy engine that'll get you from 0-60 in around 8.1 seconds.... not bad considering its a straight 5 speed auto with no manual shift mode. The Turbo is truly awesome from 50 - 90 MPH this car will whoop ass on any small cars even Mustangs haha. Handling is soft but very comfortable for a daily driver and be sure to get one that has been properly maintained and in good condition. Forget the rear seats though... cramping is a major issue but if you're a college student or single and young this is your ride.Major repairs in the first year of ownership thankfully offset by owning my extended warranty. It's running strong! and is extremely safe with very low insurance costs.
Pros —
Peppy engine; very comfortable in front seats
Cons —
Premium gas

| “Awesome All-around Vehicle.” My 2001 S40 1.9 Turbo is a very fun vehicle to drive. Overall performance is great. Braking and acceleration is surprising and it's build quality is good. The Volvo's appearance is attractive. Very luxurious car. Gas mileage is the best I've ever driven and maintenance is needed very rarely.
Pros —
Easy handling, very attractive, good on fuel and fun to drive.
Cons —
Build quality could be better.

| “Great Everyday Car” Reviewing:
2001 Used Volvo S40 STD
Volvo makes great vehicles, and they built this one like a tank. While it is small, it fits everything I can think of. It has an awful radio and air-conditioning, but they fixed it in the next version.
Pros —
Nice Acceleration, Lightweight Car, Great Safety Rating
Cons —
Air Conditioning, Brakes, Two Cup Holders, Radio

| “I Bought It Used.” Reviewing:
2001 Used Volvo S40 STD
I bought my car used at 70,000 miles. I put faith in the Volvo name even though I wasn't purchasing from a Volvo dealership. It had a good maintenance history- to my knowledge. Since My purchase (now at 75,000) I have had to replace the break pads and rotors and am now concerned that there is a transmission problem. |
| “Rock Solid” I bet you can not find a car more reliable than Volvo S40 rock solid like an American military hummer un bleivable
Pros —
reliable , georgeous

| “Take The Good W/ The Bad” Reviewing:
2001 Used Volvo S40 STD
I brought this car the 2nd year after it came out. It lived up to the Volvo name including the high priced maintenance. I expect higher end vehicles to require more maintenance, however I found myself constantly taking it back to the dealer for shorted lights, check engine, or service light. Thankfully they were minor fixes, but annoying and time consuming nonetheless.
Pros —
At 146K miles it drives just as good as it did at 14K miles.
Cons —
Wait a few years until they've worked the kinks out (like now, 2007). Headlights and rear lights are always shorting out. Check engine light would go on with no problems being diagnosed.
