| “'97 Jetta Jazz” Reviewing:
1997 Used Volkswagen Jetta 4 Dr Jazz Sedan
The jetta is pretty simple- no power windows- and not very powerful, but it has been reliable so far, is very sturdy even after11 years, and is running great at 132,000. It's great to have a small, reliable car that get's great mileage (30mpg in the suburbs) but is somewhat unique. It isn't the fastest, prettiest, or coolest car I've ever seen, but it has more personality than your average car.

My precious Jetta. My sister bought this many many years ago. I have always loved this car and it has NEVER let us down. Every other MKIII Jetta or Golfs are nightmares. This is a diamond in the rough. It just hit 106,000 miles and it runs and drives like new. I just put a throttle body, valve cover gasket, intake gasket, cooling fan switch, brakes, and a tune up on her. The paint is not the best quality. It is the VW toranado red that always fades. It handles pretty well, it isn't the fastest car but I would take reliability over speed now. The gas mileage has gotten pretty bad and I don't know what it is that is causing it yet. It is the GL trim package, do no crazy electrical issues, I just lubed the sunroof so it closes and opens great again. The only issue I have with it is the intermittent wipers have never worked. Its no big deal though. No crazy squeaks or rattles to speak of, nice cd changer (factory) good sound. tight shifting still, the side trim always comes un-glued though.

The 97 jetta had a boxy sporty look to it, got up and went, fastest i ever ran it was 125 and the engine never ran the same. ended up geting in a headon crach with a stang, lets just say im still living. the jetta had some nice features and would run to beat hell. had great gas mileage compaired to my 90 caprice right now.

It wasn't a bad first car, aside from the automatic tranny, four spoke baby carriage wheels and the Mexican build quality
Pros —
one of the last cars to succumb to the "organic" styling that was prevalent in the 90's (along with volvo) go-kart like handling, the fuel economy
Cons —
Mexican QC, self- removing door trim, the wheels (teardrops or even hubcaps would've looked better), the automatic transmission, and my favorite........the TWO POINT SLOW! it couldn't stay on a hill; it would roll back on even the slightest incline....

Overall I'm happy with this car.
Pros —
Solid, Reliable, Responsive, Tight handling, Decent gas mileage, Sounds great.
Cons —
Hard to make significant horsepower out of the 2.0L unless you move to forced induction.
Good looking aftermarket parts are few and far between.

2.0L 1997 Volkswagen Jetta GL. Black, 17 inch rims, Subs, Tinted Windows. 5 Speed... Pretty Cool Car.
Pros —
quick, 5 speed, can be fixed up and look nice.
Cons —
Has some waterpump troubles, already went through 2, Manual Windows, but other than that its pretty cool

I loved this car, drove great, very comfortable, I think it looks great too. Not a leader on the power side though. I put euro headlights and a badgless grill and it looks even better. I miss it.

Its a 97 jetta gls, stock, not that blue tho, a red that fadded to pink, fun to drive 5 speed handles well, built good, whats not to like, it's german :-P
