i brought this car about 6 months ago, it is my show pony, as i have a e39 530i se for everyday use. but m5 it is absolute fantastic to drive, and the performance is outstanding, it is a super saloon, will carry 4 pasengers in comfort and still out perform anything that challenges it. well new e60 m5 of corse will beat it and super cars. but overall a stunning drive, takes your breath away every time you drive it.

right time for the important stuff. living with it. it is a luxery car, it has every gadget going it is very pratical. a huge boot loads of space inside, tall pasengers over 6 foot will find it a little small in the rear but still comftable.

as it the m5 it has a much firmer ride than normal 5 series, as it a tight set up, but at speed it is about the same , motorway driving is so easy and the car munches the miles, you could happily drive for 8 hours straight and it wouldn bother you in the slightest if you forgot to lock your door at home, because you would be looking foward to driving it again.

all bmw are very dependable , as long as it comes with a full history you wont encounter many problems, but it is still a machine and they all got faults, but in genral it is like a rock.

only downside to owning one of these beautiful cars is running costs. servicing isnt really a problem, you can do it yourself, or any respectable garage will do it for you no problem. biggest killer of all is petrol. dont forget it is a 400bhp machine, so even if you drive steady you will be lucky to return more than 25mpg  on a steady cruise. realistic number is 18 mpg combined , but i avarage 12 mpg as i do like to feel power wen pulling away from junctions,

the car has a limited top speed of 155mph, but ive been told remove limeter it will reach 175 - 180 mph, but trust me 155 it more than enough, if you thinking about doing speeds like that you MUST have good tires on it and capable of doing speeds like that, as well if you experience a blow out, that is the last exprience you will ever have, also if you get caught , you will most prob never see your drivers licence again.

the car handels beautiful also. 50 - 50 wieght distribution and as a driver you know what each wheel and tire is doing with out any fuss, for such a big heavy car it handles like a go cart very responsive steering loads of feedback, yet no fuss. in a word brilliant.

over all it is a dependable , very fast super sports luxery saloon. if used every day you will need deep pockets for petrol, but you wont care as it will be the best exprience of driving you can have, 2nd only to super cars

Pros: speed, driving pleasure, looks of car, pratical.
Cons: fuel economy.

This is the most awesome car I've ever owned.  It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 secs!!  Beats out most Porsches!  AND... it seats 5 comfortably.  It's a blast to drive!  The only thing I would want to upgrade at this point is the GPS system.  The present one uses regional CDs, I'd prefer a DVD based system.  Other than that we're together til the end (its got 120K miles and drives like new!)

Pros: Performance & fun
Cons: GPS is dated

Overall decently handling vehicle for something this heavy.  Nice power/torque, but top end drops off... Not a friendly daily driver... But its a BMW M-Car.

Pros: Great Torque, clean build, tight and smooth finish, good handling.
Cons: No top end power, 1st gear is rough to start/take-off from the line, too many electrical issues (german engineering).

Well I had mine in Blue for bout 2 years. Drove up here and there traveled bout 15-20 thousand miles. Not that much really but the experience was great. I still believe that the e39 body looks so much better than the new, huge, appaling e60 eventhough the newer M5 is just the Engineering Excellence.

So this e39?what is so great about it? Firstly is that it looks good and mine didn't come with a flappy paddle gearbox which at that time was not really the "in-thing" because it had slow response and people just could not see the use of it. Then comes the comfort. I think that this car was not as comfy as a sofa but it was much more comfy than the 7 series which had all the new gadgets and they totally forgot bout the seats which were left like a ride in rocky mountain and the boot which was an after-thought.

My M5?5 litre V8 with not 400hp but 550hp. I had a supercharger in place in that car and I remaped the ECU box. That car was superb. If you want a low budget supercar. Should get of of these E39 M5's.

Pros: very poweful and comfortable
Cons: I dont think I have any
