Reviewing: 1996 Used BMW 328i

I bought the car in 2007 with 135000 miles for $6000. The performance of the car is excellent. It has a 2.8 liter I6 engine with 189 HP and rear wheel drive which gives it great acceleration and handling. It is actually very heavy for a sports car, and because it is a convertible, the chassis is much more flexible than the coupe. The suspension, however, makes up for its mass with a very responsive drive. Even with 149000 miles on the original engine, I ran a 15.4 quarter mile: just .1 seconds off the original time.
There are quite a few problems with the fit and finish on the interior. The convertible roof no longer works automatically. The roof is $1800 for parts alone. Other quirks include a squeaking steering wheel, sagging glove box door, sagging door panels, anemic climate control, and loud squeaking and rattling of the roof over every bump.
I think the car is quite attractive. With the roof down, it does look really good. It has attractive 16 inch alloy rims, driving lights, and a great profile. It is painted BMW's arctic silver. The interior is gray with leather seats which stay cool in the hot sun. The instrument cluster is well organized with all necessary warning lamps.
Once past 100000 miles, BMWs have a reputation or nickel and diming their owners. Many of the suspension bushings had to be replaced along with the shocks, struts, tie rods and wheel bearings. The four $120 oxygen sensors also needed replacing. I see about 31-33 MPG highway, and up to 28 city on premium fuel. It will run on mid-grade, but fuel mileage will be compromised. Most of the interior foibles I've learned to live with. The roof can be operated manually pretty easily, and the weak climate control is not too much of a problem. The car has been run on synthetic engine oil which slightly boosted fuel mileage and provided a noticeable reduction in roughness at idle.
It is indeed a fun car to drive, especially on a sunny 80 degree day in the mountains. Even though the added weight and lost rigidity of the drop top takes away from the raw performance of the car, it is still a fun car to drive.
This is a car that can be enjoyed much more if it can be maintained properly. BMWs are very expensive to service at the dealership or independent shops. I am able to work on it myself which keeps the cost down. Due to the cost of maintaining it, I would not recommend this car to a friend.

Pros — Performance, convertible roof in nice weather, handling, style, great fuel economy.
Cons — It is quite heavy for a sport oriented car, expensive to have serviced, various interior squeaks and rattles.

Its a BMW, all that needs to be said. I bought it when it was 11 years old with only 79,000 miles and it still runs like its brand new. Insurance is slightly expensive but is to be expected with a  BMW coupe. Has lots of upgrades, from being lowered two inches, sitting on 18" Hamann rims, limo tint in the back, new paint job less than three years ago.

Pros — Looks slick, runs perfect, great performance
Cons — Insurance expensive, repairs costly

The car had a really smooth ride, 100 more horses then my 325i. Apparently better on gas, but .3L bigger displacement. I didnt own it long enought to figure that out for my self. Its worth alot so insurance is a far bit for it. One reason i got rid of it.

Pros — Very smooth ride, comfortable
Cons — Insurance

They are so much fun to drive, but he's gettin old, so he handles a little slow... black leather seats get hot in the summer, and REALLY cold in the winter, but are still worth it anyways. Runs like a champ. He's got a little rust goin on, but we just repainted...

Pros — Sexy Beast
Cons — Rust. :(

This particular model of BMW is quite simple actually. Sharp, clean, and sleek. The 328i has exceptional power and good handling. Having the car's transmission as 5-speed manual makes the driving experience a lot of fun. My car color is black on black rims with chrome 3in. lips made from BMW. Stuntin' is a habit.

Pros — Quick acceleration, six-cylinder 2.8 engine, manual, 10 disc Sony system
Cons — A/C 75%

good performing vehicle. pretty good pick up for a 2.8. BMW tried to pick up sales during the early to mid '90 and cheaped out on parts using plastic parts instead of the usual aluminum for the pretty critical parts of the car (i.e. cooling system)

if you keep up with the maintenance the car will run flawlessly, but the maintenance on this car is pretty pricey. so you'll either have to have money on the side or do it yourself.

this is a very fun car to drive as long as nothing breaks.

Pros — performance, handling
Cons — needs lots of maintenance, not reliable

The exterior of this car is beautiful. It has a nice sunroof that you can set at all the way open or set it so it vents out the hot air while parked. The interior is sweet black on black leather. It has the famous red interior light so it looked a little like a space ship. The handling on this car is great it’s the nicest driving car I’ve ever owned, turns on a dime. The engine is a V6 but its fast. This car was great, I was sad to see it go.

Pros — Very small in size, so it was never a problem fitting in a parking space. It is a semi automatic which is so cool. Very good on gas.
Cons — Black on black=very hot. Maintaining a beamer is not cheap. The front seats could have had more cushion in them. The sound system is terrible in these cars you will have to replace it.

Great handling and performance. Better than most cars. Cheap to buy, we found it for under 7000$.

Pros — Solid Handling, decent speed, can go around 150 or so. Nice if you can upgrade it's HP a bit.
Cons — The convertible top makes it look ugly. Get it in a hardtop.

My second car, and my favorite one.  I love this car so much, and i treat it very well.  It would be hard to tell that it has so many miles on it.

Pros — Simply amazing. Fast, torquey, fun, and cool.  Not on ly can this car perform, it looks good doing it to.
Cons — 170,000 miles :(
