1989 Ford Thunderbird Reviews
| “Thunderbirds Are Great” my car rock , and rebuild it is a great experence, and it's paid for, with many choices of thunderbird to have, v-8 or v-6 super charged V-6 power is not a problem, good gas mileage, drives smooth, and appearance is something that everyone will notice, Cost of owning one will be kinda high, but you will love the car after so many years of ownership
Pros —
rides great and runs like a champ
Cons —
could have better brakes system, and design of motors but other then that it a great car

| “Good Car Over-all.” Always keep coolant in the engine. I've replaced the engine twice beacuse it was run too hot. The 3.8 is a good strong motor, but it's very sensitive to high heat. I like the car a lot.
Pros —
I like the look of it and the way it drives.
Cons —
It's an older car now with some creaks and rattles.

| “It May Be A Backup, But It's Sexy As Hell” I'll do this later
Pros —
Never ending excitement - will it die today?
Cons —
Weird noises, no mirror anywhere, no working windows, trunk, stereo system...

| “2nd Car. Nearly Killed Me. Went Back To Driving The Camry.” Horrid Brakes and RWD are bad for new drivers. Nearly killed me multiple times.
Pros —
It's a big V8 Thunderbird
Cons —
Poor Brakes, The Stereo was stolen out of it.

| “My Pimped Ride” good car, v-6 version that, one with a 5 speed gearbox, that abs works great when engaged, but if it fails wow you will be in bad luck if you have the TEVES II version, expensive, and complicated, but if you the normal version, that is just a vacum style, then you should no problems, only just for servicing. other then that this car has a good ride, partly from the IRS rear end (Independent Rear Suspension) good power, the SC model has a bit more in adjustabliy , ride and suspension are adjustable, the Supercharged V-6 has good power, and decent miliage, that if you have the manual, the auto is good but i think the manual version is better long rides , the auto is good for short drives, all in all the Thunderbird is a good car, one that i can recomemend, but beware, of the high cost of the parts that are on this car, it can become a headache if you do not service the car at the intervales that are recommened by the company........
Pros —
good ride , looks nice compared to other cars of that time
Cons —
high cost of part for this car............

| “Kick Ass In Class” well build, rides like a Caddy, quick with a stick

Cons —

| “1989 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe Truely Magnificent” With the introduction of the Super Coupe Ford made a statement by putting the muscle back into the Thunderbird. Muscle was lost during the fuel crisis. At 210 hp, speed sentitive steering, independent rear suspension and the PEP 151A electronic package it was a true sports coupe that rivaled the 6 series BMW. I drove this car every day through the treacherous Santa Cruz mountains (CA Highway 17) with confidence and exilleration. Its performance was true perfection. Today the car has 186,000 miles and is still running. I am now dedicated in the restoration and preservation of these magnificent machines. This car will go down in history to be the best Tbird ever. The 5 speed manual transmission gives the driver complete control from the start, accelerating and explosive speeds. The only thing holding the car back is its weight of 3500 lbs. If Ford could have lightened the car down to 3000 lbs they would have had a rocket. Altough Ford made the Thunderbird from 1989 -1995 in excess of 729,000 units less than 50,000 were the Super Coupe (6.9%) these machines will be highly sought after by collectors during the next 5 to 10 years. |
