1980 Chevrolet Malibu Reviews
“Good Basic Older Vehicle, Capable Of Serious Performance If So Equipped.”
this is a relatively reliable, basic vehicle that has a rock solid suspension and reasonable
handling. because it's mid-sized, it's reasonably easy to park too. (unlike the longer chevy
caprice, which i've also owned.) minor gripes include low power in stock form, even with
the optional V8, although mine had the 229 ci v6. transmission is a low end unit with only
3 speeds. 0-60 times are more like that of a truck than a car. also, the rearmost
framework is prone to rusting out and falling off (!) causing the back bumper to fall off.
this can be repaired again but considering the age of the car and the lack of collect-ability
of this generation of Malibu. On the plus side, there is many aftermarket parts out there to
make these vehicles serious performers.. These cars often times are stripped down and
lightened for stock car racing, so numerous suspension and engine upgrades are out
there.
V-belt engine belts. (prone to squealing on cold days)
“Loved It”
this was my first car that was just mine so I am a little bit sentimental about it.
“1st Car”
It had a motor and wheels what more could you want in a first car.
Brother drove car back and forth to college and didn't take care of it too well, so when I got it, it was quite beat up.
