2001 Pontiac Grand Am Reviews

In the performance department, the Grand Am is fair.  It's acceleration is enough to make the drive exciting.  Braking is less than ideal due to poor caliper design.  That can be remedied with small but efficient part upgrades.  Handling is somewhat sluggish for the car's size and weight, but again aftermarket provides a noticeable improvement in this area.

The build quality for these cars is exceptional because of its perceived market.  While in production it took a large portion of the midsized market.  To accomplish this it needed to last.

The appearance of the vehicle varies through the models, with the GT model being the sleekest.  With some small modifications it can be a very smooth sleek looking vehicle.

As far as cost of ownership goes, there are a few maintenance issues that these cars seem to need on a regular basis.  However once properly attended to, the car performs well.

These cars are fun to drive, simple to work on, and they have a larger fan base than publicly known.

Pontiac has delivered an all around solid car. The 2.4 is a peppy motor, that delivers excellent performance throughout the power band. The Getrag 5 speed has light, short throws, with a light clutch. Handles well, though the car is a little heavy, with little body roll. Power steering is speed-sensitive, but is plagued with the same issue as many other GM products; the steering is rather 'numb', and does not have a good 'on-center' feel. The only thing aesthetically I don't like about the car is the ugly mouldings down each side of the car; the '03 and up models have done without them, and look much better. Overall, it's a good car. Good performance, and good mileage (I usually will get 4-500km per tank), however with gas at $1.22 a liter, a fill from dead empty will set you back around $60.

it is i good car i like the way it runs, it looks pretty nice, if you get the v6 engine im sure it would go decently fast. Overall it is a pretty good car for getting from point a to point b

For an inexpensive car, it preforms well. It handles
great, pretty zippy for only four cylinders, and I just
put in new break pads an rotors so it stops on a dime!

Its fun, impossible to break and easy to fix.

Basically, there is worse there is better. Nice middle size car, lack a bit under the hood tough. Confortable and doesnt suck to much fuel. A nice first car overall for someone who has limited fund.
