1999 GMC Yukon Reviews
| “Our Yukon - The 'tank"” Reviewing:
1999 Used GMC Yukon 4 Dr SLT 4WD SUV
The "Tank." Built on a truck chassis with no apolgies necessary. Ordered this one with everything in the book, because a guy should do that at least once. We left out the "On Star" but hit every other option box including heated leather.
Pros —
Four wheel drive system was bullet proof, engine dead reliable, power to spare, roomy and comfortable.
Cons —
Fuel economy....but anyone who drives one of these things shouldn't even be considering that aspect.

These were the best Yukons ever made. The 200+ body style has had lots of electrical issues, etc, while these older models had few problems.

I purchased this car with 4000 miles in 2000. Regular car maintenance was performed and general repairs made i.e. brakes, fuel sensor, thermostat, etc, great car to drive, smooth and comfortable. At 100K the car seemed to self destruct, a new engine, 4WD transfer case, fuel pump, water pump, radiator and the tie rods for the front end steering. The car was never driven off road, 4WD high was used on occasions for snow and mountain driving. I have spoken to other GMC owners with similar make and model, and they have had either similar experiences or they did not have any of the issues. I would recommend that if you are looking at purchasing a GMC Yukon with around 80 - 90K, have it checked out, or you could be spending a lot of extra money on repairs. |
