[Edit] The subcompact Kia Rio is new this year, an entry-level Kia that is affordable, easy on the gas, and an energetic city car. The 2001 Kia Rio sedan is the only model available, a four-door, four-passenger car with a 1.5-liter, 96-hp I4 DOHC I4 and standard 5-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed automatic is optional. Why is the 2001 Kia Rio so affordable? There's not much in it.
Sitting on 13-inch wheels, the 2001 Rio sedan does not come with air conditioning or a radio or even power steering. A rear defrost, intermittent wipers, dual front airbags, and a clock are the barest of bare bones. Everything else is extra, such as ABS brakes, a radio, a CD player, air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, and power steering. You can also get an optional rear spoiler. Most owners are pleased with their 2001 Kia Rio, which lives up to its affordable advertising. Fuel economy is high, the small engine is a good fit for the subcompact, and there is more headroom than most cars of its size. The limited backseat, long list of repairs (wheel bearing issues crop up frequently), and lack of standard features are common complaints.
