2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

The most fuel-efficient Jetta sedan trim available for 2009, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI posts fuel economy numbers of up to 41 mpg, thanks to its turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder clean-diesel engine. The four-cylinder powerplant, which runs on ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel, produces 140 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque and links to a six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed DSG (direct shift gearbox) automatic transmission, also with Tiptronic and a Sport mode, is available as an option. The TDI diesel engine posts fuel economy numbers of 29/40 city/highway mpg with the automatic transmission and 30/41 with the manual transmission. Other performance-related features for the Jetta TDI include traction control, an electronic stability program, and antilock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution. The Jetta TDI rides on 16-inch Bioline alloy wheels with all-season tires.

Standard interior features for the Jetta TDI include a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, a leather-wrapped shift knob and brake handle, cruise control, air conditioning, eight-way manually adjustable front seats with power recline for the driver, and a 10-speaker AM/FM audio system with an in-dash 6-CD changer, Sirius satellite radio, and an MP3 input jack. Other standard interior features include V-Tex seating surfaces, a rear center armrest with storage, and 60/40-split fold-down rear seats, so owners can expand the cargo area. Dual front, front side, and side-curtain airbags also come standard.
