2009 MINI Cooper Base

With a 118-hp, 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine, the Base is less powerful than both the S and John Cooper Works versions of the Cooper, but that sacrifice comes with slightly better fuel economy, stretching to 28 mpg in the city, and 37 during highway driving. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard, as do 15-inch alloy wheels in either of two designs, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, dynamic stability control, and all-season traction control.

Inside the car are six-way adjustable seats with leatherette upholstery, rear seats that fold for additional cargo space, a start/stop ignition button, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power mirrors, power windows, power doors, air conditioning, a CD player with six speakers, and an on-board computer indicating average fuel/speed, outside temperature, and range. For safety the car includes six airbags (driver, passenger, and side-impact), door beams for side impact, and remote keyless entry.
