The 2009 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring AWD has the same multitude of interior, exterior, and drivetrain features as the Grand Touring with front-wheel drive and adds Mazda’s Active Torque Split all-wheel-drive system. The AWD system automatically sends power to each individual wheel as demanded by conditions for increased safety and handling. The AWD increases the vehicle’s gross weight by 220 pounds, to 6,025 pounds, and decreases its mileage to 15 city/21 highway mpg. The Grand Touring AWD also comes with the towing prep package, which ups the maximum towing capacity to 3,500 pounds and includes a heavy-duty transmission cooler and a reprogrammed Engine Control Module.
