2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS Summary
Looking at its standard features, you might not believe the 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS represents the base trim in the lineup for this full-size sedan. Featuring front-wheel drive and a double wishbone front and multilink rear suspension, the 2009 Sonata GLS upgrades its standard 16-valve, 2.4-liter DOHC inline four engine to get 175 hp and 168 ft-lbs of torque at 4,000 RPM. It comes with a choice of 5-speed shiftable automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
Though crash test scores are not out yet, the 2008 version of the GLS received five stars in all categories but rollovers, in which it got four stars. Standard safety features include 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, dual front-side and side curtain airbags with front passenger deactivation, traction and stability control, and halogen lamps. The sedan rides on 16-inch steel wheels with all-season tires and comes with a tire monitor. Inside, it seats five in two rows, with 60/40 split-folding rear seats that feature a folding armrest/trunk pass-through. The trunk holds a spacious 16 cubic feet and features a power outlet. A cargo tray and net cost extra. Legroom is ample: 43 inches in the front and 37 in the rear.
Full power features include remote entry, wheel-mounted cruise control, and heated mirrors. A CD player with new MP3 input jack, satellite radio (three months free), intermittent wipers, tilt steering, a security system, and a tachometer are all standard. The Popular Equipment Package adds wood interior accents, automatic headlights, wheel-mounted audio controls, a trip computer, and a sunroof. Bluetooth is also offered.
