Available in only one trim, the eco-friendly 2009 Honda FCX Clarity fuel-cell sedan runs on hydrogen and oxygen. The 100kW motor is powered by the V-Flow fuel-cell stack, achieving 136 hp and 189 ft-lbs of torque at 20 mph. Honda claims top speeds of 100 mph and a 68 mi/kg rating. This translates to 270 miles on one tank of hydrogen.

The front-wheel-drive sedan seats four and holds 13 cubic feet in its trunk. Continuing its strong safety tradition, Honda gives the 2009 dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows, 4-wheel ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, traction and stability control, a rearview camera, and a tire monitor. The steel frame and layout of the hydrogen tank and fuel stack minimize collision impacts. There is also a Collision Mitigation system, which uses visual and audio signals to alert the driver of potential accidents. Sensors and an automatic cutoff valve activate in the event of a hydrogen leak.

Inside the 2009 FCX Clarity Base, you'll get power windows, locks, and mirrors, remote entry, adaptive cruise control and audio controls mounted on the wheel, a CD player with MP3 input jack, satellite radio, and seat-mounted climate control. The system heats and cools the interior through the seats (the human point of contact), for a more economical distribution of energy. Also on hand is a navigation system that will point out refueling stations. Wood accents dress up the interior, and a rear console doubles as a tray for backseat passengers.
