Identical to the EX, but with more driving versatility, the 2008 Kia Sorento EX 4WD features a part-time 4WD system that can be used both on and off-road, thanks to high and low-range gearing. Road grip is improved with a limited slip rear differential and center locking differential. Skid plates are standard on this mid-sized SUV with only 8.2 inches of ground clearance. Full-time Torque-On-Demand 4WD is an available option only on the EX. A 3.8-liter DOHC V6 delivers 262-hp and gets 15/20 mpg. Towing power peaks at 5000 pounds with the optional tow hitch. A 5-speed shiftable automatic is the only transmission.
Five-star safety features include traction and stability control, 16-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, and 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes. Dual front-side, knee, and side curtain airbags for both rows are also standard. Rounding out the package are foglights, automatic headlights, a tire monitor, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The SUV gets three stars in rollover tests.
An 8-way power driver's seat and power rear window are added to the standard power features. Heated mirrors, remote entry, wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, intermittent front and rear wipers, a trip computer, compass and temperature display, and a 10-speaker CD/MP3 player are all standard. Leather and fake wood trim the wheel, shifter, and console. Power outlets are in both rows and the cargo area, which holds 31.7 cubic feet. It is supplemented by a standard roof rack and comes with compartments, tie-downs, and a cover. Rear seats split-fold 60/40 and feature a fold-down armrest. Options add leather seats in a package that includes a sunroof, chrome accents, a 6-CD changer, heated seats, and dual-zone climate control. Remote start and side step rails are other add-ons.
