2008 Lexus GS 460 Base Summary
Essentially an upgraded GS 430, the new 2008 Lexus GS 460 Base carries a 342-hp, 4.6-liter DOHC V8 engine that rates 339 ft-lbs of torque at 4100 RPM. The electronic variable valve timing enhances engine performance, and fuel economy rates around 17/24 mpg. Not great, but also not bad for a mid-sized luxury sports sedan.
It would be simpler to list what's not included in the 2008 GS 460 Base. Power features include windows, locks, and retractable mirrors, remote entry, keyless start, power tilt and telescopic steering, a power trunk release, and 10-way power front seats with memory settings for three drivers. Wheel mounted cruise and audio controls, leather upholstery and trim, real wood and alloy accents, and non-reflective gauges are also included. The 10-speaker sound system accompanies a 6-CD player with MP3 compatibility, which can be upgraded to a 14-speaker system. A trip computer, compass and temperature display, dual-zone climate control, intermittent wipers, Bluetooth, and a garage opener complete the package. Oh yeah, and don't forget the sunroof.
A full array of performance technology comes standard on the 2008 GS 460 Base. Along with 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution, you get Active Stabilizer Suspension System, Adaptive Variable Suspension, and Vehicle Dynamics Management. All improve handling, body roll, and cornering. Dual front-side, side impact, knee, and side curtain airbags for both rows are standard. Other safety features include 18-inch alloy wheels, a tire monitor, automatic headlights, foglights, daytime running lights, adaptive headlights, xenon lamps, mirrors with turn signals, and a first aid kit. Options add Parking Assist, which uses sensors to guide the car when backing up, and a rearview camera that's bundled with a voice-activated navigation system. Run-flat tires and rain-sensing wipers are also optional, and a combination of adaptive cruise control and a Pre-Collision System helps prevent accidents by controlling braking.
