Brand new for 2008, the Turbo X Base is a four-door sedan with racing pretensions. A 2.8-liter turbo DOHC V6 with variable valve timing sits under the hood, delivering 280-hp and 295 ft-lbs of torque. It is matched to a 6-speed manual, but a 6-speed automatic is optional. The XWD (cross-wheel drive) comes with an electronic limited slip rear differential. A self-leveling suspension adjusts ride height for road conditions. Larger brakes, springs and shocks, an independent sport suspension, rhomboid exhaust tips, front lip spoiler, trunk-length rear spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels with performance tires let the driver feel the road.

Though not yet rated for safety, the 2008 Saab Turbo X Base features 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, dual front-side and side curtain airbags, traction and stability control, head restraints, and OnStar. Automatic headlights hold xenon HID lamps. Foglights, cornering lights, rain-sensing wipers, and a tire monitor are also standard. An auto-dimming rearview mirror can be added.

Inside, carbon fiber trim complements the black leather seats and leather steering wheel. Eight-way power front sport seats, cruise control, a trip computer, compass and temperature display, full power features, remote entry, heated mirrors, dual-zone climate control, and a sunroof are all standard. Rear seats split-fold and feature an armrest that doubles as a pass-through to the 15 cubic foot trunk. Audio controls on the steering wheel run the 6-CD player with MP3 playback and satellite radio. Premium Bose speakers enhance sound enjoyment. Some nice add-ons are heated seats, a navigation system, garage remote, and memory settings for the driver.
