2008 Subaru Impreza WRX Summary

The turbocharged 2.5-liter DOHC flat four-cylinder engine in the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX still delivers 224-hp and 226 ft-lbs of torque, but it does so at a lower 2,800 RPM than last year's. The engine is paired with either a five-speed manual that has been refined for more responsive action or a four-speed automatic. Able to do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds, the 2008 Impreza WRX features sport seats, dual exhaust, rear spoiler, and a front hood scoop. It is offered as either a sedan or hatchback, both featuring all-wheel drive with a limited-slip center differential. Four-wheel ABS brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire monitor, automatic headlights, halogen lamps, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags are all standard. The WRX adds traction and stability control and larger 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. With these features, the 2008 Impreza WRX earns five-star and "Good" safety ratings.

Sport seats, alloy accents, and leather trim for the steering wheel and shifter are the main interior differences between the 2.5i and WRX. A full power setup includes remote entry and wheel-mounted cruise control. A CD/MP3 player can be replaced with an optional 6-CD changer and MP3 input jack. Tilt steering, a tachometer, temperature and compass display, front and rear cupholders, and intermittent wipers are also standard. The hatch comes with intermittent rear wipers as well, along with a roof rack. Rear seats fold down, and the front passenger seat also folds in the hatch, expanding trunk space to 44 cubic feet. The hatch has a larger cargo space, holding 19 cubic feet compared to just over 11 in the sedan.

Options for the 2008 Impreza WRX are similar to the 2.5i's. An auto-dimming rearview mirror, satellite radio, heated seats, and a navigation system are available. So are a cargo net and cover, as well as a Sport Package that adds more style to the front grille and rear spoiler. Many WRX fans don't like the 2008 styling changes to the compact sedan and hatch, because they feel it's lost some of its sporty look. However, the overall drive, acceleration power, and handling still make this car a lot of fun behind the wheel.
