A rugged off-roader to the core, the 2008 Land Rover LR3 SE serves as the starter trim in this SUV lineup. Seating up to seven in three rows, the full-time AWD LR3 comes with high and low-range gearing and a locking center differential. A locking rear differential costs extra. The front and rear double wishbone suspension is supplemented by a self-leveling air suspension that adjusts to road conditions. Also standard is a Terrain Response System, where the driver can choose from five settings, ranging from General through Snow and Gravel, Mud, and Rock.
Able to tow up to 7700 pounds with an optional tow hitch, the 2008 LR3 SE runs on a 4.4-liter, 300-hp DOHC V8 engine and 6-speed shiftable automatic. It gets 315 ft-lbs of torque at 5500 RPM. The 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires come with a tire monitor. Other safety features include Hill Descent Control, to limit wear on the brakes, and rear parking sensors. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, traction and stability control, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for all three rows are also standard. Rain-sensing wipers, foglights and headlamp washers help with visibility.
Stadium-style seating gives passengers better views in all three rows. Second and third rows fold flat and split-fold for various storage configurations. The cargo area starts at 9.7 cubic feet, but expands to 90. It comes with tie-downs and a rear window wiper. A roof rack provides more storage. Standard equipment in the 2008 LR3 SE includes a leather seats, a sunroof, full power features, 8-way power front seats, remote entry, cruise control, intermittent front wipers, a personalized trip computer, heated mirrors, and dual-zone climate control. A 9-speaker CD system features an MP3 audio input and controls on both the steering wheel and in the second row. Leather and alloy trim decorate the dash, doors, shifter, and steering wheel. A garage remote and security system complete the standard fare.
Option packages bundle a navigation system, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. Also available are heated seats and heated washer fluid.
