The 2008 GMC Envoy SLT-1 offers a lot of the creature comforts to make family travel comfortable. This rear-wheel drive SUV adds leather upholstery, heated seats, and memory settings for the 8-way power driver's seat. Audio controls are now in the backseat and on the steering wheel, and a trip computer and garage opener have also been added. Seating four in tow rows, there are both cupholders and power outlets front and back and storage consoles above and in the floor. The rear seats split-fold and the cargo area holds anywhere from 43 to 80 cubic feet, with a standard roof rack adding more storage. The rear window opens separately from the power liftgate. A cargo net and cover cost extra.

Other standard equipment in the 2008 Envoy SLT-1 includes power windows, locks, and mirrors, remote entry, cruise control, a CD/MP3 player with satellite radio, intermittent front and rear wipers, tilt steering, OnStar, a hands-free telephone setup, leather steering wheel, and temperature gauge and compass. The SLT-2 uses larger 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, but comes with the same safety features as the other trims: 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, side impact beams, dual front and side curtain airbags, traction and stability control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a tire monitor. Automatic headlights, foglights, daytime running lights, and halogen lamps keep the road in focus.

A 4.2-liter, 285-hp DOHC I6 with a 4-speed automatic supplies the power to the 2008 Envoy SLT-1, which some owners feel is not quite adequte enough. Options add an 8-way power passenger seat, DVD player, 6-CD changer, power-adjustable pedals, and a sunroof. Side steps, for easier access to the cabin, can also be added.
