With the 2008 GMC Savana Cargo 3500 Extended comes a 155-inch wheelbase, 20 inches more than in the regular 3500. This means cargo capacity jumps 50 inches to 317 cubic feet in this rear-wheel drive utility van. The cargo area comes standard with rubber flooring and is accessed through rear barn doors or a passenger side 60/40 hinged door. A driver's side hinged door and sliding passenger door are optional. Despite the extra space, the 2008 Savana Cargo 3500 only seats two in front row bucket seats.
The one-ton van is powered by a 4.8-liter, 279-hp V8 and 4-speed automatic with overdrive. More powerful engine options include the 6.0-liter turbo V8 with 250-hp and 460 ft-lbs of torque, or the 6.6-liter V8 with 323-hp and 373 ft-lbs of torque. The 4.8 V8 provides 10,000 pounds of towing capability. A trailer hitch is optional. Riding on 16-inch wheels with all-season tires, the 2008 Savana Cargo 3500 Extended gets a new tire monitor this year. Other safety equipment includes 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, dual front airbags, automatic headlights, and daytime running lights. For a little extra, you can add mirrors with turn signals, a breakdown kit, roof lights, and a heavy duty locking rear differential.
To maintain its work-like status, convenience features are kept to a minimum. Air conditioning, a radio, two front power outlets, intermittent wipers, a security system, power steering, and a tachometer are all standard. A nice touch is a revised trip computer and a security system. Upgradable options include a full power setup, 6-way power driver's seat, remote entry, heated mirrors, tilt steering, rear climate control, cruise control, and a CD player or CD changer. Cloth can substitute for the vinyl upholstery, and a chrome grille and bumpers dress up the exterior. Splash guards are also available.
