A 1.8-liter, 140-hp inline four is matched to a five-speed manual transmission and rates 140 ft-lbs of torque. It features a four-wheel independent suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension and rides on 16-inch wheels with all-season tires. Four-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, dual front-side and side head airbags for both rows, front head restraints, passenger airbag deactivation, halogen lamps, daytime running lights, and a tire monitor are standard safety features. The 2008 Civic LX earns mostly five stars in crash tests, but four for rollovers.
Building on the base DX, the 2008 Civic LX adds steering-wheel-mounted cruise control, remote entry, a security system, and an MP3 input jack in addition to the CD player with radio data. Other comforts include a full power setup, intermittent wipers, two front power outlets, front cupholders, tinted glass, manually adjustable height settings for the driver's seat, and a split-folding backseat. The trunk holds almost 12 cubic feet. A rear spoiler is standard on the 2008 Civic LX. Dealer-installed options include remote start, a leather steering wheel, an 8-CD changer, foglights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, cargo net and organizer, and 17-inch wheels.
