The Ford F-150 XL represents the base trim in the expansive F-150 family. The XL uses a standard 4.2-liter, 202-hp V6 engine with a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic. If you need extra power, it can be upgraded to a 4.6-liter, 248-hp V8 or a 5.4-liter, 300-hp V8. The XL offers only air-conditioning, a CD player, traction control, and power door locks as options. On the plus side, ABS brakes come standard. Maximum towing capacity comes out to 8,500 lbs. This trim offers decent power, but could use more standard features, especially for those who assume today's vehicles should come with at least air-conditioning.
