This affordable yet sleek compact sedan is the base model, equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission. A 1.8-liter, 140-hp, 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine delivers 128 ft-lbs of torque. The 2008 Honda Civic DX Auto seats four, though the back seat is a bit cramped. Rear seats split-fold onto a trunk that holds 12 cubic feet. A cargo net and organizer can be added. Safety equipment includes daytime running lights, halogen lamps, front disc, rear drum, and 4-wheel ABS brakes, a tire monitor (new this year), dual front-side and side curtain airbags for each row, and passenger airbag deactivation. An auto-dimming rearview mirror is available.
Features are fairly ample for a base model. The 2008 Civic DX Auto comes with power windows, locks, and mirrors, a CD player, intermittent wipers, a tachometer on the two-tier center console, and a tilt steering wheel. There are only front cupholders. Several options enhance the interior, including an MP3 jack and leather steering wheel trim. Foglights, a rear spoiler, and front air dam can also be added. The 26/34 fuel economy and easy handling are the biggest hits with drivers, though road noise and blind spots are cited as downsides.
