Essentially the same as its rear-wheel-drive sibling in terms of features, the 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X 4WD stands out for its off-roading capabilities. These come courtesy of its part-time four-wheel drive with locking rear differential, low-range gearing, skid plates, 10 inches of ground clearance, 16-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and solid live axle front and rear suspension. The power supply is a 202-hp, 3.8-liter V6 that produces 240 ft-lbs of torque. A 6-speed manual is standard, while a 4-speed automatic is optional. Its capacity is around 3,500 pounds with the optional towing package. ABS brakes, traction and stability control, rollover sensors, and dual front-side airbags provide safety. A tire monitor is also included. Foglights and a limited-slip rear differential are optional.

The 2008 Wrangler Unlimited X 4WD is minimally equipped, but does feature a CD player with MP3 input and playback. A 6-CD changer and satellite radio are optional. A tilt steering wheel, intermittent wipers, front and rear cupholders, power outlets, and a tachometer are standard features and can be supplemented with power windows and locks, a rear window wiper, remote entry, and remote start. Tie-downs are standard in the cargo area, which expands from 46 to 85 cubic feet in the Unlimited with the rear seats folded down. The windshield folds out, and the doors can be removed. A standard soft-top convertible can be replaced with a hardtop or a Sunrider soft top with a sunroof.
