The 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara gets a standard Sunrider convertible soft top, which features a sunroof when the top is closed. A regular soft top and three-piece hardtop are also available.
The two-door Sahara differs from the base X in that it rides on larger 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. Part-time four-wheel drive comes with a locking rear differential, a front and rear stabilizer bar, 4-wheel ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, and traction and electronic stability control with rollover protection. Standard skid plates and 10 inches of ground clearance improve its off-roading performance, and an electronically disengageable stabilizer bar is available. Dual front and side impact airbags are standard, but no side curtain bags are offered. A tire monitor and foglights round out the safety features. A limited-slip rear differential is optional.
A 3.8-liter, 202-hp V6 and 6-speed manual transmission power the 2008 Wrangler Sahara, which can also be had with an optional 4-speed automatic. The Sahara comes with four cupholders, two front power outlets, intermittent wipers, air conditioning, and a CD/MP3 player, as does the base trim, but adds cruise control, a leather steering wheel, a temperature and compass display, and satellite radio. On the outside, it gets tubular side steps and body-colored fender flares (which are black on the X trim). Cargo capacity stretches from 17 to 56 cubic feet with the back seats down, and the Sahara can pull up to 2,000 pounds with the optional tow package. Other add-ons include a 6-CD changer and hard disk drive, power windows and locks, remote entry, a new navigation system, and a rear window wiper.
