Get ready to leave the road in the 2008 Jeep Wrangler X, the two-door base trim of the original SUV. Equipped with low-range gearing, front and rear stabilizer bars, skid plates, 10 inches of ground clearance, a rear locking differential, a solid live axle front and rear suspension, and a 2-speed transfer case, the part-time four-wheel drive 2008 Wrangler X can ford streams and climb steep rocky outcroppings with ease. Power comes from a 202-hp, 3.8-liter V6 and 6-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed automatic is optional. The X rides on 16-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and is equipped with 4-wheel ABS brakes, traction and stability control, rollover sensors, a tire monitor, and dual front-side airbags. Side curtain bags are not available.
Seating four, the 2008 Wrangler X holds 17 cubic feet of cargo, expandable to 56 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. A convertible soft-top is standard, but can be replaced with a three-piece hardtop or a Sunrider soft-top with a sunroof. The rear window is plastic, and the rear door opens sideways. Standard equipment includes a CD/MP3 player with MP3 input jack, tilt steering, two front power outlets, a tachometer, and intermittent wipers. The cargo area features tie-downs. The two doors can be removed if opening and closing them takes up too much of your time. Various option packages add air conditioning, power windows and locks, remote start, rear wipers, and 17-inch wheels. An electronically controlled front stabilizer bar is also available if you want more ground clearance. Mopar options dress up the Jeep in chrome or black exhaust tips and side steps.
